The Gay Bishop and The Grandmother Priest

I've recently had conversations with two fascinating people.  As it turns out they're both Episcopal priests.

Gene Robinson is now bishop of New Hampshire, and I talked with him while in Washington DC attending the Human Rights Campaign Clergy Call for Justice and Freedom in early May.  He's both direct and gentle, courageous and caring.  He came to national attention as the first openly gay and partnered man to be elected bishop.  We talked about sexuality, marriage and morality, prayer, finding balance in life and more.  (see my review of his book in the May 11 post on my other blog, Gathering Fragments)

Margaret Guenther is a spiritual director, as well as being a mother and grandmother - an 80-year-old with a deep soul.  We visited while she was in Nebraska for a Five Day Academy for Spiritual Formation in February.  We had the chance to talk again when I was in DC - what a gift that was!

You can hear my interviews with both of them this Saturday, May 30, 8-9 am Central, www.KZUM.org.

I'll also post the interviews when I get a chance at Saint Paul UMC.

Catching Up

I have ignored this blog for two years, and will begin keeping it more up to date.
Interrobang?! is still on the air and going strong.
Doyle has moved away from Lincoln, so I'm doing the show solo.
I'll update the profile soon to reflect all that.
I hope you'll listen Saturdays, 8-9 a.m. (Central Time), KZUM.org.

Remember, life is short, so love one another.

Taking the Bible Figuratively

September 9 - We talked with James Rowe Adams, founder of The Center for Progressive Christianity, about his latest book, From Literal to Literary. He maintains that religious language is primarily figurative by nature. The Bible is full of metaphors that "like knotholes in a fence around a construction site allow the curious to peek into the realm of God."

Looking at September

Everybody enjoy the Blues Blowout Weekend on KZUM 89.3 FM. We'll be back Interrobanging on September 9. We will be exploring more ideas around the kinds of faith and culture that don't injure others in their practice. In the near future we will talk about praying labyrinths, spiritual direction, and the "troublesome words" of religion.
Remember, September is "Celebration of the Sneeze" month. Sneezing clears the head, expels unwanted particulates from the body, and can't be done with your eyes open. Enjoy your next sneeze to the fullest! BTW, I just named September "Celebration of the Sneeze" month. What kind of new celebrations do we need?
